BDE: R’ Avrum Schwartz, z”l

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of R’ Avrum Schwartz, z”l, a pillar of the Viznitzer Kehillah in Boro Park. He was 72 years of age.
He was born in Romania, in the aftermath of the Holocaust. His father was R’ Shmuel Zev Schwartz, from a family of Viznitzer Chassidim in Romania.
The family emigrated to Eretz Yisroel, where the niftar was raised, and Avrum became an ardent talmid of Rav Wosner, zt”l.
At the age of 16, he came to America to learn in the Mattesdorfer yeshiva.
He married, tbl”ch, Mrs. Rivkie Schwartz (nee Fleischman, known to many in the community for her decades of assisting new mothers), the daughter of the legendary Reb Duvid Fleischman. Together they established a beautiful family.
The niftar davened as Khal Tzemach Tzaddik Viznitz for decades, where he was known as a ba’al chessed who would assist anyone in need. He was mekushar to the Yeshu’os Moshe of Viznitz, and ybl”ch his son, the current rebbe, and would not miss Rosh Hashanah in Viznitz for the world.
Around one year ago, he suffered a debilitating stroke, and was niftar on Yom Tov.
The Levaya will take place at the Viznitzer Beis Medrash on 51st street near New Utrecht Avenue, at 1:00 this afternoon.
