BDE: The Rosh Yeshiva Rav Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, zt”l

From Yerushalayim comes the sad news of the passing of one of the ziknei Roshei Yeshiva of our generation, Rav Baruch Mordechai Ezrachi, zt”l, Rosh Yeshivas Ateres Yisroel, and a member of the Moe’tzes Gedolei HaTorah. He was 94 years of age, and spent a lifetime immersed in Torah. 

Rav Baruch Mordechai was born in Petach Tikvah in the year 1929. His parents were Rav Yisroel and Hinda, and from a young age he was known as a masmid in Torah and as one of the illuyim in Yerushalayim. He learned in Yeshivas Chevron, and married Shulamis, the daughter of the mashgiach, Rav Meir Chodosh. He soon began to deliver shiurim in Chevron, as well as Knesses Chizkiyahu in Kfar Chassidim. 

In the 1970’s he opened his own yeshiva in the Bayit Vegan section of Yerushalayim. In recent years, the yeshiva moved to Kiryat Sefer. 

In addition to his great hasmodoh and mastery of Torah, the Rosh Yeshiva was also an incredible ba’al menagen and ba’al tefillah, and he was known as a very warm person. He was also a phenomenal orator from whom words of Torah would flow forth with great vigor. 

Many of his talmidim today serve as Roshei Yeshiva in their own right, and his children and descendants are likewise known as great talmidei chochomim. 

In recent months, the Rosh Yeshiva was feeling unwell, and returned his neshomoh to its Maker on Thursday morning. 

The Levaya will take place on Friday morning in Yerushalayim where tens of thousands will escort the Rosh Yeshiva to his final resting place.
