Boro Park Residents’ Vehicles Still Trapped at Ann Street Rubble

As the dust continues to settle on yesterday’s horrific collapse of a parking garage in Lower Manhattan, some further details have emerged overnight regarding the history of this century-old structure. Records show that the building has nineteen violations in the past, some of which remained unresolved.

Speaking at the scene, NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell said that there is no reason to believe that this collapse was due to anything but structural damage. She further stated that the nearby Pace University building was deemed unsafe following the collapse.

Meanwhile, vehicles belonging to Boro Park residents remain buried in the rubble. One resident who works in the area, and has parked his car at this garage for decades, told BoroPark24 from his office: “My car is still in there, and my boss's car has definitely been destroyed. Apparently according to the authority's on-site. We are hearing that they are planning to demolish the entire building.”

This information is consistent with reports that the FDNY was unable to enter the building due to its fragility and had to use drones to check on victims trapped inside. As of this time, one person has lost their life, and seven more have been injured in the collapse.
