BREAKING: NYPD Arrests One of the Three Suspects Wanted for Boro Park Hate Crime

The NYPD has arrested Danial Shaukat, who is one of three suspects who harassed Yidden at 7pm on Shabbos at the Agudath Israel shul, which is located at 4911 16th Avenue. An additional suspect is expected to be arrested in the coming days.

Shaukat, who is 20 years old, and lives near Boro Park, has been charged with aggravated harassment and perpetrating a hate crime.

Before harassing Jews on 16th Avenue and trying to enter Agudath Israel, the three Palestinian-supporters first stopped on Ocean Parkway and 18th Avenue to attack two yeshiva boys. Then, the suspects, who were driving a blue Toyota Camry, drove into Boro Park, yelling anti-Semitic slurs, where they tried to enter Agudah Israel, the front door of which Yidden had quickly locked.

Before driving off, the trio of suspects destroyed and smashed the side mirror of a car that was parked on 16th Avenue, near the shul.

Yidden who were in front of the shul on Shabbos reported that two suspects yelled, "Free Palestine," at one Jewish man, spit on another victim, and also screamed, ‘We’ll kill all the Jews down here.'"

Fearing a physical attack, one of the victims quickly ran into the shul and locked the door on one of the suspects who following closely behind him, eyewitnesses said.

After several South Brooklyn commanding officers met with community leaders, who requested a larger police presence, and Mayor Bill de Blasio and Chief of Department Rodney Harrison met with Agudah Israel leaders on Friday to request the same, since Sunday, the community has never before seen such an incredibly large police presence.

Dozens of police cars have been driving the streets, and many police officers have been standing guard at yeshivas and shuls all over Boro Park.

In addition to the NYPD’s visibly amplified presence in Jewish neighborhoods, yesterday, President Joe Biden, Mayor de Blasio, Gov. Cuomo, and the NYPD all have said today that hate of any sort in New York is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

New York City, said Mayor de Blasio, who told BoroPark24 yesterday that the NYPD will be making more arrests in the coming days, is one place that we have to stop anti-Semitism, “for once and for all.”

     “We will stomp it out.”
