City Council Invited to Ride With NYPD to Personally Experience How Many Stops
by Mindy Cohn
After vetoing the How Many Stops Bill on Friday morning, as reported by BoroPark24 here, Mayor Eric Adams invited the City Council on Sunday to ride along to see firsthand what a New York Police Department officer would have been required to document during the course of his normal day had the bill passed.
"Drowning officers in unnecessary paperwork when they should be out on the street, keeping us safe and building relationships with the community. It just gets in the way of the success that we have shown in the city," Adams said, according to CBS News. "We want them to ride with a police officer. Go listen to these calls and his jobs that are coming over the radio. See what it is to respond to these jobs. This is a moment where we must be on the ground and see the realization of any form of legislation that's coming out of our city government."
After a veto, the City Council has thirty days to act. As of Friday, Speaker Adrienne Adams has shared that she is sure she'll have enough votes to override the mayor's veto on the How Many Stops Bill.
