In Aftermath of Manhattan Garage Collapse, DOB Steps up Enforcement, Closing Many Garages

Following the horrific collapse of a parking garage on the Lower East Side of Manhattan which claimed life of at least one person, and injured a number of others, the Department of Buildings has condemned and vacated fifteen more garages around the city, citing structural concerns.
A number of them received “partial vacate” orders, while others were ordered to completely vacate their premises, such a seven-story parking structure in Brooklyn.
These garages who were cited will need to vacate immediately, and begin construction to bring their facilities up to DOB code.
