Kalman Yeger Leads in Effort to Deny Tischler GOP Nomination

Councilman Kalman Yeger, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, is leading by a small margin to deny his opponent the Republican nomination. If his victory holds, he will not face opposition in the general election in November.
Yeger, who is running for a third term, is ahead of Heshy Tischler by 17 votes with all ballots counted. Yeger has 371 votes, or 50 percent of the sparsely attended election, while Tischler has 354, or 47 percent.
Still uncounted are the absentee ballots, which could take a couple of weeks to tabulate. The Board of Elections website shows that there were 180 absentees requested by voters in the 44th district, with 54 of them returning the votes. These will be pivotal in deciding the winner of the Republican primary.
The general election is November 7.
