Mayors Jewish Advisor Council Holds Public Pre-Purim Safety Meeting

by M.C. Millman

The Mayors Jewish Advisory Council held its annual community-wide pre-Purim safety meeting featuring city law enforcement agencies along with representatives from local emergency personnel and the general public.

The meeting took place on Monday, March 18, at Touro College in Brooklyn.

Discussions included alcohol consumption, which Deputy Chief Richie Taylor says is really the number one Purim concern, including keeping teens away from alcohol and drinking and driving. Other topics broached included counterfeit money, not offending others on Purim, and the mental health crisis in New York City.

Taylor also quoted the mayor, who says, "There are 8.3 million New Yorkers, and there are 35 million opinions."

Taylor went on to say that the men in blue "do the best we can along the strips and the corridors, and that's why we're here tonight to have the community work with us."

One community resident commented on the forms that were handed out to write in a problem that the resident would like to see addressed during the evening. His only complaint was that there was only a place for complaints, while he wanted to thank the mayor and the NYPD for being there and caring for the community.
