Amid Staggering Anguish, Gov. Issues Some Good News at Last

Governor Cuomo has been at the microphones every single day for the last few weeks. Every single day, the news seems to have been worse than the previous day. The dire forecasts of more doom and gloom have implanted fear and foreboding in the hearts of New Yorkers— and the entire country whose eyes are glued to this state which seems to be the epicenter of the Coronavirus pandemic.

This may have had the effect of forcing residents to take the situation seriously, and take the necessary precautions in order to flatten the curve, so that the hospitals—which are overwhelmed as even so—would be able to cope with the influx of patients.

Thus, the cautiously optimistic news on Sunday morning was welcomed by all.

The governor related that—although things have been all over the place, and the numbers can jump... there has been a reassuring development: a drastic reduction in new hospitalizations from Friday into shabbos.

In the chart issued by the state, one can see the number of new hospitalized on Friday at 1,095, while those admitted on shabbos was 574—roughly half. This is also the most drastic reduction to date, by far.

This reassuring news is also backed up—anecdotally—by Hatzolah of Central Jersey/Lakewood, which reported on motzei shabbos that, b’chasdei Hashem they received far less calls this past shabbos.

This is by no means permission to relax the measures we have been taking. To the contrary; it is a reassurance that what we have been doing is working. And we must keep it up until we beat this dreaded virus for good.
