We regret to inform you of the petirah of Reb Akiva Deitch, a longtime Boro Park resident with a heart of gold. He was niftar suddenly on the second day of Yom Tov at the age of 74.

He was the son of the legendary Satmar chossid, Reb Chaim Yaakov Deitch, a Holocaust survivor and devoted satmar chossid from the before the war, and longtime administrator of the Satmar chevra kaddisha. Akiva was born in Italy following the war, and truly represented that first generation of rebirth following the Churban.

Like all the Satmar children his age, he learned in Satmar throughout, and spent his yeshiva gedolah years on Sands Street, in proximity of his sainted Rebbe, the Divrei Yoel.

He married the daughter of Reb Mordechai Tzvi Rosman of Hungary in New York, and settled in Boro Park right from the start. Davened in Deezh for many years, and was very close to the Deezher Rebbe on sixteenth Avenue.

For years he was a devoted right-hand man to the legendary Satmar philanthropist Reb Leibish Lefkowitz, and was known to so many people for his ever-present smile and good word for everyone.

“He did not know the meaning of the word ‘no,’ recalled an acquaintance. “He was well known and beloved by so many, and would always make everyone laugh.”

Sadly, Reb Akiva suffered a heart attack on the second day of Yom Tov in the afternoon, and passed away soon thereafter.

The levaya will take place in front of the Shenia Beis Medrash, 1156 58th Street, at 11:00.

Yehi zichro Baruch.
