BDE: Rabbi Yehoshua Fischman, z”l, Menahel of Torah Umesorah
By: YS Gold
We are saddened to inform you of the petirah of Rabbi Fischman, the Rov of the Ohav Shalom Shul in Williamsburg for decades, and a former Menahel of Torah Umesorah.
Rav Fischman learned in Yeshivas Rabbeinu Chaim Berlin and was a very close talmid of Rav Yitzchok Hunter.
The niftar was a brilliant person, and absorbed the many things that he witnessed during his decades of observing the development of the Charedi community in the New York area.
For decades he was the Executive Vice President of Torah Umesorah, a position in which he exhibited extraordinary dedication to the chinuch of the sons and daughters of Klal Yisroel.
Neighbors and acquaintances describe a Yid who was noble, brilliant, and eidel… simply a pleasure to be around.
Rabbi Fischman served as the Rov of Williamsburg’s Ohav Sholom Shul, one of Williamsburgs oldest congregations. In this capacity he bridged divides, able to appeal to every kind of Yid, and maintain relationships with his Satmar neighbors with equal love as Yidden from very different backgrounds.
In recent years, he came to reside with his children in Flatbush, and he was niftar on Thursday.
The Levaya will take place Friday morning in Shomrei Hadas at 9:30. Watch the Levaye here.
Yehi zichro baruch.
