Work to Begin on HCS's New Community Services Center in Boro Park

A massive new community center will rise on Boro Park’s northwest edge within two years as HCS prepares to expand to a multiplicity of services.

Human Care Services, an agency founded 25 years ago to help parents with developmentally disabled children, has plans to expand into providing a range of resources to Boro Park residents, including healthcare, education, and job training and placements. It will do all that and more in its planned 97,000 square foot community center at 43rd Street and New Utrecht.

The complex will feature a cavernous auditorium, classroom space and medical examination rooms, as well as offices for staff and multipurpose rooms for events.

The planned site is known for the events that took place there over the years. For example, Royal Donut's annual Chanukah headquarters was located there, where Boro Park residents would come to customize their donuts. Many rebbishe chasunas, tishen and events also happened there over the years.

The project, according to the Real Deal, a real estate news website, will be designed by architect Louis Dessau, who is known for creating community facilities. Construction is expected to commence shortly, and a grand opening scheduled within two years.
