BDE: Reb Shmiel Duvid Rottenstein, z”l

We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Reb Shmiel Duvid Rothstein—a pillar of the Kavunas Halev kehillah, a longtime voice and speech coach in the Boro Park community, and all-around ba’al chessed—at the untimely age of 71.

His petirah took place last Friday, erev Shabbos Chanukah

The niftar was born in the aftermath of the war, in Williamsburg, where his father was one of the ardent mispalelim of the Sigheter Beis Medrash, headed by the Beirach Moshe, zt”l. As a child and a young bachur, he learned in the yeshiva which was founded and headed by the Beirach Moshe.

He married into the Lowy family of Boro Park, and settled here, becoming tethered with heart and soul to the previous Krasna Rov, Rav Hillel Lichtenstein, zt”l. following his passing, he joined the kehillah of his son-in-law, the Admor of Kavunas Halev, where he remained a beloved chaver for the rest of his life.

Reb Shmiel Duvid was an incredibly heartfelt ba’al tefillah who warmed and inspired thousands of hearts over the decades with his sweet, melodious voice and expression of the holy words of the tefillos.

In addition, through his work as a speech and voice coach, he enabled many more to do the same. He went out of his way to help people develop their voices... and to find their voices.

A beloved pillar of the Kavunas Halev and Pressburger (where he davened in his last years) communities—a ne’im halichos, possessed of sweet ways—he is mourned and missed by all those who knew him.

He was laid to rest in the Pupa beis hachaim.

Yehi Zichro Baruch.
