Op-Ed: I have Experienced Kochavim’s Incredible Work Firsthand

The incredible Kochavim organization is well-known to so many in the medical field, in which I circulate, because the transformational effect that they have on our patients is tremendous. The support that they provide to patients and their families is indescribable. 

But for my family, Kochavim is personal. Our daughter Ziva was born prematurely, and Kochavim was there from the first moment, for every hospitalization, and for all the moments in between. 

When our daughter turned twelve, Kochavim made her bas mitzvah. When we needed babysitters Kochavim was there. They’ve been there around the clock for our family during our time of need. 

For every need that a patient may have, Kochavim and their selfless volunteers are there—making a world of a difference to patients and their families.  

Their education program ensures that children will not fall behind in their academics while undergoing medical treatment, and the scores of daily shifts of visits to homes, in many cases including home-cooked meals. 

Kochavim operates 63 apartments where families of patients can stay in comfort as they seek to be near their loved ones. 

Now, this venerable organization turns to the community to help them help your fellow members of the community during their time of dire need. 

I have been privileged to witness their incredible firsthand, and I cannot think of a greater form of the mitzvah of bikur cholim than to join this campaign, assisting Kochavim to be there for their patients throughout the year.
