Possible New Record for NYC's Snowless Winter so Far

BoroPark24 Staff

While Central Park has seen a few snowflakes this season, we have yet to witness any measurable snowfall this winter.

As a result, New York City may be on its way to a record-breaking latest snowfall this winter if the trend continues, especially since snow is not predicted in the extended forecast. The record-breaking year for the longest time the city went without significant snow accumulation was 1973.

NWS New York, NY reports this lack of snowfall as "below normal and quite a bit lower compared to this same time last year."

In 2022, the first measurable snowfall in Central Park occurred on December 23 - leaving New York City more than two weeks behind in 2023 compared to last year. NBC New York reports that New York City is also more than a month behind the first snow average date of December 7.

It is still unclear when the first major snowfall will blanket New York City, as the Climate Prediction Center reports that New York City may see above-average temperatures through the rest of the month.
