President Biden Announces 2024 Re-Election Run

President Joe Biden formally announced his re-election campaign in a three-minute video on Twitter this morning.

“Freedom: Personal freedom is fundamental to who we are as Americans,” intoned Biden. “Nothing is more important. Nothing is more sacred ...MAGA extremists are lining up to take away those bedrock freedoms.”

According to the FiveThirtyEight national polling average, only 43% of Americans approve of Biden's performance, while 53% disapprove. 

Although Trump seemed much less popular nationally during his presidency, Biden’s approval ratings now are only marginally better than Trump's midway through his presidency, when 41% approved and 53% disapproved.

On Sunday, NBC News reported its poll that showed that only 26% of Americans want Biden to run again, while 70% of Americans do not want another term with Biden, who is now 80 years old and would be 86 at the end of his second term in 2028.

“Every generation has a moment where they have had to stand up for democracy. To stand up for their fundamental freedoms,” tweeted Biden, who will run for re-election with Vice-President Kamala Harris. “I believe this is ours. 

“That’s why I’m running for reelection as President of the United States. Join us. Let’s finish the job.”
