The annual summer food program (SFSP), funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and distributed by the New York State Education Department, has been launched.
According to the program’s website, “The SFSP reimburses providers who serve free healthy meals to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months when school is not in session.”
While children receive meals during the year in school, the program is aimed at ensuring that students 18 years old and below receive nutritious meals even during the summer.
3,000 schools across the state will be distributing meals through this program, with a number of them in the local neighborhood.
