Shammosim of Boro Park Gather for an Evening of Information and Inspiration

We all know them, and we all rely on them in our daily spiritual and communal life. The Shamossim of our shtieblach and shuls—large and small—are an integral pillar in the center of our communities, ensuring that our Torah and tefillah, mikvah and coffee… and so many other functions that are today part and parcel Yiddishkeit, continue with uninterrupted order and convenience. 

On Monday evening, dozens of gabo’im and Shammosim gathered at Ateres Golda to network and to hear advice from those who have been in the field for decades, and watched this important position develop into a multi-faceted role, as the needs of our communities continue to evolve. 

The topics covered addressed everything from coffee cups and mikvah towels to dealing with difficult people who create incidents in the shuls; giving out aliyos to collecting pledges… and everything in between. 

The event was chaired by the legendary Reb Mordechai Meir Berkowitz who told BoroPark24 about the incredible turnout: “This is the beauty of Boro Park; we called an event for shammosim and vendors, and we drew in a concentrated crowd with only people who are here to learn and network on the important role of gabo’im and shammosim in this town.”
