NYPD Chiefs: Don't Send the National Guard, Rather Fix the Bail Reform
By BoroPark24 Staff
Yesterday, Governor Hochol announced that to fight the crime uptick in the Subway system, she will deploy State Police and the National Guard to add security and bring back calmness to the subways, but turns out this aint so simple as said.
This morning, the NYPD Chief of Patrol, John Chell, tweeted on X bashing this announcement, saying that the problem isn't in the transit system, the subways aren't a "war zone" but rather the bail reform is the cause of these crime actions.
In his words: "When we arrest recidivists we arraign, indict, prosecute and incarcerate. Let’s fix “Bail Reform” by eliminating discovery restraints so the DAs can incarcerate recidivists. Parolees, when they violate they go back to jail. “Less is More” hurts our city. “Harm against Harm” is properly utilized for bail/remand of recidivists. Hold judges to account.
If you want change, then vote for the change you seek. This is what NYers want and deserve. All STAKEHOLDERS do your job! Keep our city safe."
The NYPD Chief of Transit, Michael M. Kemper, also came out bashing the announcement, crediting the NYPD Transit members for their work and blaming the Bail reform for the subway crime.
"If anyone is curious what your NYPD cops are doing … well … they’re doing their jobs! They’ve arrested these 38 individuals a combined total of 1,126 times! The better question is why are they forced to arrest these people so many times & where are the consequences for their repeated illegal actions? Know this, the NYPD does NOT determine and/or impose consequences. That is the responsibility of the other stakeholders in the criminal justice system (lawmakers, judges, prosecutors)."
"NY’ers deserve better." he finished off his tweet.
